F1 vehicle racing in s'pore WHOOO HOOO

wat a great local news 2 start off wit in the new yr. Saw the news today tt F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has been in talks wit at least two S'porean groups to stage a race here as early as next yr Aug.

The cost of hostin tis world-class event is thought 2 b in the range of US$35m ($54m). The returns r many times higher up 2 US$100 million frm hotel receipts, recreational spending and contracts 4 local players. Tourism receipts is also a key Singapore consideration.

Mr Hermann Tilke, the world renowned German architect responsible 4 designing the F1 circuits , was asked 2 design a street circuit which would see F1 cars racing in downtown Spore at speeds of up to 300km an hour. Mr Tilke visited the spore last yr and his track design has since been approved, and it will b pretty similar 2 the legendary Monte Carlo track in Monaco — arguably the most glamorous of the F1 race destinations.

the proposed design of the street track in spore

Ecclestone did mention tt Singapore's wide roads r ideal 4 a street circuit. It would also avoid the buildin of a huge stadium track tt would be a white elephant the rest of the yr. "Singapore was offered a F1 race in 1991 but turned it down, in part due 2 site (buildin a curcuit track) concerns. Since March last yr, Mr Ecclestone revealed exclusively 2 the local press tt he was open 2 the idea of letting Singapore host the event.

2 parties are reportedly keen on hostin a full-fledged F1 race in Spore. 1 group is led by hotel and property tycoon Ong Beng Seng, while the other by Arthur Tay, managing director of the SUTL Group, which owns the ONE°15 Marina Club in Sentosa Cove. Possible partners include industry players such as Mobil, Panasonic, the ING group, Bridgestone, Siemens and Foster's beer

It starts and finishes at Marina Bay, wher a giant floatin pontoon is being constructed 2 host the NDP 2007 and other major sports events. It is expected 2 take in major landmarks such as the Raffles Hotel, Suntec Fountain, City Hall and the Esplanade. The race could also be held at night to minimise traffic disruptions.

how excitin to hav tis event witout building a race track. Imagine all the vehicle start off at the floatin platform and zooming 300kmh past prominent landmark like the merlion, esplanade, fountain of wealth, St Andrew Cathedral, Supreme Court and City Hall and end back 2 the starting line. the whole propose track will b 5km. wat got mi even pump up even more for tis event is tt tis spore (UNIQUELY) race, its gonna b the 1st F1 race tt could be held @ NIGHT. This would reduce the need for traffic disruptions within the vicinity of the circuit and the benefit for live telecast to other part of the world. But i still hav to hold on to myself as it is still NT CONFIRM YET but fingercross. Hopefully tis event can b held so as it will bring an enormous boost for the tourism sector for s'pore
