Changi Terminal 3 part II

CHANGI Airport's new $1.75 billion Terminal 3 is completed. It will start operations on Jan 9, but before that, rigorous testing and final preparations will take place.

Over the next seven months, airlines, airport agencies, ground handlers and shop tenants will move in to the new terminal, built to handle 22 million passengers a year.

Flight trials will start in July, and the public can look forward to an open house later in the year.

Announcing the Jan 9 opening date after touring the terminal yesterday was Transport Minister Raymond Lim. He said: 'This is an important milestone we have achieved. Terminal 3 will help us to strengthen and consolidate our regional hub position and at the same time enhance customer experience.'

At 380,000 sq m, Terminal 3 is Changi's biggest. Terminal 2 is 358,000 sq m, and Terminal 1, just over 280,000 sq m. Together, all three terminals will allow Changi to handle about 70 million passengers a year. This will keep it ahead of regional airports like Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok, which handles 45 million passengers, and in step with emerging air hubs like Dubai International Airport, which also plans for 70 million passengers by next year.

To out-do the competition, T3 will offer visitors 100 shops and more than 30 food and beverage outlets, as well as a 350-room airport hotel with a swimming pool, restaurants, conference rooms and a spa, among other facilities.

This is in addition to the combined 160 shops and 80 food outlets in T1 and T2. T3's anchor tenant will be Singapore Airlines, which plans to move more than half its operations from Terminal 2, where it is currently housed.

Passengers who have to move between terminals to catch connecting flights can transfer via the airport's new People Mover System.

The $135 million system, comprising 6.5km of separate train tracks running through the restricted and public areas, will take passengers between Terminals 2 and 3 in three minutes. Another train will run between Terminals 1 and 3.

T3 boasts unique design features, including skylights on the 300m by 200m roof which are equipped with 'intelligent' reflectors that let in light but block out heat depending on the amount of sunlight and cloud cover. Artificial lights come on automatically when necessary.

At yesterday's event, Mr Lim was asked for an update on Singapore-Malaysia air talks. He said that when transport officials from both sides met earlier this month, there was consensus that air links between both countries should be expanded, but there was no talk of a possible time frame for the opening.

Such details will be ironed out during the next round of official talks, which The Straits Times understands is likely to be in September, at the earliest. On conflicting reports in Malaysia recently on the subject, he said: 'Different people say different things, so I think it is best to wait for the formal talks itself.'

Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said in Kuala Lumpur last week that the lucrative Singapore-Kuala Lumpur route is unlikely to open up before the Asean deadline of unrestricted capital-to-capital flights by the end of next year. Two days later, Malaysian budget carrier AirAsia chief Tony Fernandes said at a conference in Singapore that he remains optimistic the route will be opened to low-cost airlines - possibly as soon as September

WaterSpout in Spore

Waterspout sighted off Singapore's east coastBy Gamar Abdul Aziz, Channel NewsAsia Posted: 25 May 2007 1646 hrs

SINGAPORE: A waterspout has been spotted from the eastern parts of Singapore. Most callers to the MediaCorp News Hotline reported seeing what looked like a tornado or a twister over the sea.

Most said they saw the phenomenon at about 2.30pm and that the phenomenon lasted about 15 minutes. Witnesses said it was moving in a circular motion.

The waterspout could be seen in several areas including Chai Chee, East Coast Park, Suntec City and Potong Pasir. Last August, a waterspout was also spotted off the coast of Sentosa Island.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) said intense thunderstorms were the cause of the phenomenon.

The waterspout is a narrow column of water that is sucked to the base of a cloud, making it look like a funnel. An average diameter of a waterspout is 50 metres and it has average wind speeds of up to 150 kilometres per hour.

The NEA added that waterspouts will dissipate rapidly near the coast. It also clarified that waterspouts are not rare as there are actually several sightings each year. - CNA/yy

I bet sum of u caught the finale of the American Idol season 6 n oredi noe by now whu is the winner. Anyway its a fight btwn an beatboxing entertainer n a powerhouse singer which in the end the latter soar above the young chap. Juz cant believe a 16 yr old Glendale, Arizona hav such a powerful voice @ such a tender age.

Anyway i find tt tis season is a tought season to pick whu is the winner for the competition especially when we were down wit the final 5 coz we got a few of the best singers like melinda doolittle, lakisha (kiki) ann jones and jordan sparks, so any1 of them could b the winner. I was a lil disappointed Do Little wasnt in the finale 2 coz i hav to agree wit simon cowell tt she has the best voice in idol history no doubt. Wouldnt it be nice for melinda to sing tt coronation song. Sigh!!

Anyway tis is a Spin Of The Day post nt American Idol post so its back to the music. "This Is My Now" is a song written by Jeff Peabody and Scott Krippayne. The top two finalists of the sixth season of American Idol (Blake Lewis and Jordin Sparks) sang it during the finale shows. It was chosen over thousands of other entries in a songwriting contest 4 fan-written songs 2 b sung on the show. Its slow tempo & inspirational theme is typical of American Idol "winner single" material.

Lewis sang it first during the show & received only middling reviews frm the judges, who blamed the performance on the type of song & nt on his abilities. Sparks received better feedback & Simon Cowell stated tt she "wiped the floor" wit Lewis's rendition.

As the 2007 winner of American Idol, Sparks will release the song as her debut single as the American Idol.

The Legend Water Chalet @ Port Dickson

Wat a great short getaway retreat to Port Dickson. Last wkend my family took sum time out for a retreat aft sum hectic weeks b4 the trip. It took us 3 hrs to get to the water chalet and we were all excited and anticipated abt the trip coz we hav not been to a water chalet above sea level.

My cousin bought tis really cool water chalet and invited us to the place, he left the keys wit the guard so he wasnt there to welcome us

Port Dickson is juz an hour plus drive frm Malacca, its situated near the coast of malaysia and its pretty strip down no skyscraper or shopping area around.
Legend Water Chalet consist of 280 water chalets and 112 suites facing the sea and its a 15mins drive to Port Dickson town

Inspired by the upcoming July 7th Live Earth series of concerts, Madonna has written a new song, "Hey You," which will be available to be downloaded in the MP3 format on Microsoft's home page, http://liveearth.msn.com, on May 16. The first million downloads of "Hey You" will be free as Microsoft has pledged to donate $0.25 per download to the Alliance for Climate Protection for the first million downloads.

Madonna is scheduled to perform "Hey You" live at the Wembley Stadium Live Earth concert in London, it was confirmed by her record label, Warner Bros. Records, who have also announced that they will be releasing a live CD/DVD of the Live Earth Concert Series.

Madonna's new song, "Hey You," recorded in London, was produced by Pharrell Williams and Madonna. She is one of seventeen headliners that have been announced including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Genesis, Beastie Boys and others who will perform at Wembley as part of the 24-hour, 7-continent Live Earth Concert Series.

"On 7/7/07, Live Earth will inspire people from around the world to combat global warming with live performances from superstar artists like Madonna," Live Earth Founder Kevin Wall said. "The early release of "Hey You" is an incredible boost to our efforts to get people engaged in the environmental cause. We are thrilled that Madonna donated her art to Live Earth and is a part of this movement for us."

Live Earth is a monumental music event on 7/7/07 that will bring together more than 100 headlining music artists and 2 billion people to launch an ongoing, mass movement to combat the climate crisis. Concerts will take place in New York; London; Sydney; Tokyo; Shanghai; Johannesburg; Rio de Janeiro; and Hamburg.
